HANDLES:
Straight, Solid Hardwood Handles: The standard handles (except for the "Mozart" and Flannelschlagel sticks are 1/2' diameter straight-grained white ash, 15" in length. One can order sticks at longer and shorter lengths (lengths between 14 1/2 "and 16" are recommended) at no additional cost. When ordering, please specify the length desired. If the length is not specified, the sticks will be made at 15" in length. Ron Carlisle personally selects and matches all handles for weight, balance, and feel. He also does all hollowing and tapering himself.
Hollow Wooden Handles: All sticks except the "Mozart" and "Concerto" sticks can also be made on 5/8" diameter hollow wooden handles in your choice of length for an additional charge of $15.00/pair. The hollowing is done by a process that Ron developed and the hollowing goes throughout the entire length of the handle except for the last inch or so where the handle is solid so as to permit firm attachment of the core. Hollow wooden handles are customizable at lengths between 14" and 16" at no addtional charge.
Bamboo Handles: All of the Carlisle Professional Timpani Sticks, including the Flannelschalgel, are also available on bamboo handles at an additional charge of $10.00/pair. The hand-selected bamboo is of excellent quality, ca.7/16" to 1/2" in diameter, quite straight, and with usually just one node (usually at the end of the grip unless one prefers one node at mid-length). The handles are finished with polyurethane. Bamboo handles are customizable in length at no additional cost. PLEASE NOTE: Bamboo is a grass, not a wood, and bamboo handles cannot be guaranteed against eventual splitting, although many do last for years. Due to the select nature of this bamboo, quantities are often limited.
Tapered Wooden Handles: These are now available for the first time. These lathe-turned sticks taper from 1/2" at the butt end of the stick to ca. 7/16" at the neck. A tapered pair of wooden sticks in one's choice of length (14 1/2" is ideal) can be had for an additional $15.00/pair.
Finishes: The standard finish is CLEAR on natural wood. Multiple coats (from 3 to 5) are hand applied and buffed between coats. Optional finishes: For an additional $3.50/pair charge, wooden handles can also be stained with either a WALNUT or CHERRY stain prior to the application of the final polyurethane finish.
OPTIONAL LATEX RUBBER GRIPS: Amber-colored natural rubber latex grips for 1/2" diameter sticks only are also available at $6.00/pair if ordered at the time the sticks are ordered or at $7.00/pair if ordered separately.
